A major UK Mercedes-Benz dealership group is exploring the opportunity to enhance technician productivity and increase revenue by adopting Autotech Connect’s assisted reality technology.
Early analysis suggests the solution has the potential to reduce administrative time for technicians by at least 30 minutes per day, allowing them to remain focused on hands-on tasks for longer.
Based on current operations, this is equivalent to around 100 additional productive hours per technician, each year. With 95 technicians across the group, and a labour recovery rate of £105 per hour, this could represent in the region of £945,000 in additional annual revenue. These projected gains demonstrate how even small process improvements can have meaningful commercial impact when scaled across a large workforce.
Paving the way for improved service levels and faster vehicle turnaround
Autotech Connect’s Remote Expert assisted reality headsets, powered by RealWear technology, provide hands-free access to real-time guidance and essential workshop information. Technicians are able to capture notes verbally as they work, access repair data on command, and communicate instantly with senior experts without stepping away from the vehicle.
By streamlining documentation and reducing delays in accessing technical support, the dealership group anticipates shorter repair times, reduced Vehicle Off Road (VOR) periods and a more seamless customer experience. Growth in productive technician hours is also expected to lead to increased parts sales as more repair opportunities can be completed in the same timeframe.
The technology additionally offers a sustainable method of enhancing technician capability. Remote collaboration enables knowledge sharing across multiple sites and helps preserve critical expertise as the workforce evolves.
